SOCLOSE

SOCLOSE sing a cappella (literally meaning "in chapel style") four-part close harmony.

Their style of vocal music unaccompanied by instruments is characterised by four-part chords for every melody note.

Each of the four parts has its own role: generally, the lead sings the melody, the tenor harmonises above the melody, the bass sings the lowest harmonising notes, and the baritone completes the chord, usually below the lead.

Many popular singers started their careers in barbershop, including Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Andy Williams and Dick Van Dyke who is still performing with his quartet Vantastix.

Youth to the fore

Following Tony's illness and subsequent death, we have, with his blessing and encouragement, found a new lead. Alex, who we met whilst performing one evening, has joined us and brings the average age of the quartet down considerably. Just hope Merv and Rob can keep up! The new line up has just taken its first booking and we hope to see you around Leicestershire soon.

Merry Christmas from soclose

Hope you all have a great Christmas & New Year. We are taking a break whilst Tony, our lead, undergoes an operation. Normal service will resume once he is fit and we'll.
